I have been baffled for a long time when trying to store and
organize my Copics Sketch Markers.
Nothing I could find would hold my growing set, nor could I find a
method that was easily transportable if I wanted to take them to a class, a crop
or a friend’s house. It was so
frustrating!
Copics currently have 358 Sketch markers in their collection
and I believe they released Glitter Markers at 2013 Summer CHA. The largest bag that Copics sells is so expensive ($100). I was
told it doesn’t hold all of their markers.
It’s designed to hold them in a “cup” system which doesn’t really allow
you to keep your markers in numerical order, which frustrated me. I’ve tried several other methods, but have
been disappointed with all of them. I
was so tired of arranging and rearranging them!
My husband and I found a way to adapt storage boxes that
will hold all of the colors, in place, for a very reasonable cost. Yes, you can make them yourself but we've done all of the work and my prices are very reasonable.
Did you just say “I don’t have many markers?” The beauty of Copics is that with alcohol
ink, you can blend the colors together to give you depth and dimension. You should have 3 shades of each color in
order to blend effectively. You will likely build your collection over
time and take it from me; you won’t want to move all of the markers around each
time you purchase them to make space for the new ones.
The Medium box is
priced at $25 and will hold at least 350 markers. It’s very simple with just the grid. It will hold your markers and many of your
supplies.
The Trunk box
(only 1 currently in stock) is priced at $30 and will hold at least 330
markers. It’s beautiful but the dome lid
cannot accommodate the extras included with the Deluxe box.
The Deluxe box is
priced at $40, has many value added amenities and will hold over 450 markers,
as well as many of your Copics supplies.
This is the one I prefer. I’ve
been using mine for over a year and several friends saw my box and now they own
one too.
These boxes are very sturdy!
I use the folder at the top for paper and color charts. I use one pocket for my Copics color wheel and
the other for index cards which I use for test paper and to try to keep track
of the colors I use. I’m still learning
and practicing. I typically stamp (or
print if I’m using digi’s) at least 2 identical images. That way I have one to practice on and one to
color. If both turn out well, I use one
for its intended purpose and I put the other in my Copic coloring book that a
dear friend made for me. If not, I scan
and print the better one and put it in my book.
I record the Copic pen colors in the book as well so that the next time
I want to color them, I can easily recreate it.
I use the extra space in the rows for a stamp block, ink
pad, my pencil box full of Spica Glitter Pens, various cloth swatches for
texturizing, etc. There is space on top
of the markers to hold an instruction book or two or a thin profile
clipboard.
There’s a cut-out in the back of the grid with a bottle
(included) for Copic’s Colorless Blender. I generally wrap my cloth swatches around the
bottle secured with a rubber band. It
keeps the bottle from moving. This space
is also great for the sets of Copic’s Multi-Liner fine tip pens. There
is also a 2 block space cut out for the Colorless Blender refill which is what
I generally travel with. The large
bottle of blender is too tall for the box so I keep the big bottle on the shelf
in my art room and use the smaller bottle if I’m going to do a lot of texturizing.
As your collection grows, the box gets heavy! To make it easier to carry, I use a
StrapAHandle. I have a few of them in
stock as well.
We do accommodate
special requests. One friend said she needed more spaces for
refill inks. We created a row of 2 wide slots to suit her needs.
If you have questions or would like to have a custom box,
please don’t hesitate to contact me. Please feel
free to spread the word to all of your Copic friends.
Thanks for stopping by!
